    Happy Birthday to me..well, almost.

So tomorrow is my birthday. I don’t know if I should be excited or sad. The only real thought that has been going through my head is, “How did I get this old.” (Yes I am aware of the aging process for those of you who feel the need to be smart-asses )

It seems like just yesterday I was 20 or 21. One of my students asked me in class Friday how old I would be on Monday. I was amazed at student answers, “She’s going to be 21″ “No she’s not, she’s 24″. Finally,  I stopped the discussion and told them I’d be 27.

“You’re not married yet!” exclaimed one of my 7th grade boys. “Oh my god, Miss Nikolena! You need to get married!” This then lead into other students wild imaginations getting the best of them with fantasies of Mr. Right coming to school during their period and proposing, etc.

Now my 7th graders are determined to have me married off by the end of the year. Amazing, their top choice for me is Jay Chou lol

*sigh why can’t I just have a fun and happy birthday like I did as a kid–just have fun and not worry so much about the candles on my cake

  • Happy Birthday!!! <3

  • Of course you should be excited… Like my hubby puts it, we either get older or we’re dead, lol… So celebrate every year for the blessing that it is.  I’ve embraced turning 30… and I intend to embrace turning one year older every year thereafter… as well!  Have a fun-filled birthday!

  • ryc: yes, there’s lots of workplace bullies and they often make threats they cannot back up but it works on some people, which is why they take a stab at it, hoping you’d be unaware enough to accept what they say. psht.

  • happy birthday, nicole!~~you don’t look like 27 at all!

  • happy brosday malakee!

  • oh you know, bbq pool parties, playing with my dogs, the usual =)

  • happy birthday!
yeah i might go back to Taiwan, but right now i am taking summer classes in NY

  • i’m turning 27 too =(

  • HAPPY BDAY NICOLE!!

  • It’s always interesting to see kid’s perspectives–my frosh also kept guessing that I was 21 or 22, partly because I look young and partly because they apparently think that all new teachers must be 21. But then some of my juniors were shocked that I’m 26: “You’re only 26? My brother’s 26!”

Never fear, Nik, 27 isn’t old. And just think: in a few more years, parents will never mistake us for students again. (Though I suspect that happens less often for you, since your students are younger. But mine wear uniforms, so that alone ought to clue a parent in…)

  • You’re only as old as you feel ;) ….Happy Birthday!

    Jay, nice pick!
